Hello everyone! I am spending the summering interning in Chicago, which means I've gotten a small taste of the adult life in the city. During the week I stick to making my lunches and dinners so that on the weekends I can splurge on restaurants, and one of my friends recommended Wheat's End. As soon as she said the words "completely gluten-free brunch place" I was in. As soon as we sat down, I was probably one of the more indecisive customers, since being able to eat anything on the menu is not usually the norm at other restaurants (this is a fantastic problem to have).

After brunch I went to the beach and relaxed by the water with a good book and some strawberries I picked up from the farmer's market. There's nothing a like a good fresh batch of strawberries--not only are they naturally gluten-free, but they are also delicious!

Happy Spring everyone! It's been a while since I last posted, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I am back from my hiatus. I have a lot of exciting and new content to share with you all!

Today's recipe is one that I recently saw at a gala and thought it was a cute and easy way to take a typical recipe to a different level. I found these small mason jars on Amazon, and thought they would be perfect to accompany the hoeur d'oeuvres during a dinner party. While I'm in college, and one would think that I was more inclined to use paper plates and plastic cups, sometimes it's fun for my friends and I to host dinner parties, pretending we are much more adult than we are.

Ingredients

1/4 onion

1/2 tablespoon butter

1 can of tomatoes

1 cup heavy cream

GF bread (my favorite is the one at Trader Joe's)

Garlic butter

Mayonnaise

Cheese (for the grilled cheese)

Procedure

1. Mince 1/4 of the onion.

2. In a pot, sautee the onion in 1/2 tablespoon of butter.

3. Add in the can of tomatoes.

4. Let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes on low heat.

5. Add in the heavy cream, stir it in well and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes.

6. Add in your preference of salt and pepper.

7. Blend the soup to the consistency you prefer.

8. On a pan, heat up some garlic butter (I found a really good one at Trader Joe's), and on your gluten-free bread (my favorite is also from Trader Joe's), spread a layer on mayonaise on just one side of each piece of bread.

9. Add the bread to the pan and make your grilled cheese sandwich as you normally would.

10. Slice up the grilled cheese in small squares and add them to a toothpick--this will lay on top of the small glasses of tomato soup.

11. Assemble the tomato soup hoeur d'oeuvres, and enjoy!

Happy Halloween everyone! Today's blog post is a guest post by Jamie Brown, and she has a great infographic for gluten-free candy on this candy-filled holiday.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I am glad to have passed that tradition on to my daughter! But with a lot of children and adults having gluten allergies, intolerances and sensitivities, we need to be more careful what we are making for Halloween treats and handing out for Halloween candy!

I recently found a blog Eat Without Gluten and absolutely loved it! This blog has so many great recipes for the holidays, my daughter and I even recently made her Gluten-Free Halloween Cupcakes for her and her friends at school, so everyone would be able to enjoy a treat this Halloween! I even shared her idea of the Switch Witch with a friend of mine who's daughter has a gluten allergy. She still doesn't understand completely why she cannot eat everything her friends can eat, candy included. So I think the idea of the Switch Witch coming at night to switch out the unsafe candy and replace it with safe candy is such a fabulous idea!

I know Halloween still seems to be focused a lot on the candy and treats, and that's why we want it to be a safe and fun holiday for all adults and children!
