We are extremely excited to announce that we have been successful in securing £10,000 from the National Lottery!

Since April 2017 we have run free fortnightly Community Cycle Centres across four locations in Nottingham. This will end in March 2020 due to the discontinuation of the fund by central Government, after-which the Centres will close unless they secure funding. The centres provide free cycle training sessions between April and October and were developed with input from local community groups, support services and the local authority. RideWise have been delighted to secure this new fund, which means that our King Edwards Park community cycle centre will open in 2020, supporting new learners, families and commuters.

Chief Executive Helen Hemstock said ‘we’re delighted to have secured this fund, which will help us to support over 100 people to get on their bikes, safely and confidently. We’re delighted to have been successful in our application.’

The sessions are delivered by National Standards qualified cycle instructors. The training takes place in an outdoor multiuse games area where we train people how to ride a bike as part of the beginner’s session. In the improvers session we build confidence and teach them how to safely cycle on quiet roads.

These sessions offer inclusive community focused opportunities to train groups of people and give them the confidence to explore their community by bike. This work helps to reduce congestion, improve road space, improve public perceptions of their community and increases community wellbeing. RideWise are passionate about being at the heart of green transport and are thrilled to be able to reach more people during 2020.

The new funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes and is the largest community funder in the UK, will see the King Edward Park Centre to stay open from April 2020 to October 2020.Sessions were previously free for Nottingham City residents, but this new stream of funding will allow the sessions to be free for all.

As you may already know RideWise are trying to raise £10,000 to keep our Community Cycle Centres open for another year. The funding for this project is due to run out this year and if we cannot find other funding then they will close. So we have registered with easyfundraising to help us get some donations. If you shop online you could help us, when you shop retailers will donate a small percentage to our charity, at no extra cost to you. There are lots of retailers that are signed up to easyfundraising such as Amazon, eBay, Marks and Spencers, John Lewis, Next and many others. If you book holidays, purchase insurance or electrical's online then it's likely these will also be set up on easyfuindraising.
