It's time for another Kanekiki "day in the life"! Here's a sneak peak for all of you who are asking yourselves what it's like to be living on a tropical fruit farm and community on the Big Island. Jaboticaba

Being one of the most striking and interesting fruit trees, Jaboticaba is perfect for our first Fruit Feature. The fruit, also known as the Brazilian Tree Grape, Jabuticaba, or Jabu, is native to Brazil and has several qualities in common with grapes. Day in the Life with Andy

Let’s kick off our blog revival with the first post in our new “Day in the Life” series. Today, we are featuring a true team player in our community: Andy Leeder. I’ll do my best to include some of the major events and improvements, and a few of our smaller, yet still profound victories. Here we go… Our first helping hands to come to the our aid, I won’t name names but you know who you are <3, gave us so much of their time and healing ene

We're Coming Back!

It has now been more than a month since we've had any substantial volcanic activity in Puna! After over three months of earthquakes and lava, featuring 180 ft tall fissure eight spewing a river of lava 9 miles long, we may be seeing the end of an explosive chapter in Hawaii's history. The permanent residents at Kanekiki are eager to finally bring some stability back into our lives. So, we are now happily beginning the process of getting Kanekiki back to it's manifestation as

Temporary hold - evacuation story - when will we be back?

"Due to recent volcanic activity in the area our visitor program is on a temporary hold.  We will not be scheduling interviews or taking on new visitors until further notice. Prayers and well wishes are welcome in this time of intensity. Mahalo" This was the hasty message I typed after it became clear that the first few cracks and rumblings in Leilani Estates was quickly evolving into a full blown eruption. None of us imagined at the time that it would end up being the bigge
