A Conversation About Natural Hair

Have you ever looked at a person and just get an indescribable vibe from them? I recently heard of the term divine feminine energy and I immediately thought of Danaé because I had been trying to explain why I chose to interview her for The Incredibles feature. As you go through her Instagram page, you will understand why I think she embodies this term. When you meet her in person, it’s a whole other level of divine feminine energy I had the opportunity of interviewing Danaé a

Ex And The City

My very first post on this blog was about how I picked up and left South Africa after a break up. This post is about how that move led me to my first love/hate relationship (but mostly love) with a city. My First Year In America Weirdly enough, I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that I live in NYC. I have fallen in love with this city and I keep falling everyday, some days more than others. I thought it was just infatuation when I first got here but I’m almost 12 mont

24 Hours in Atlanta

I went to Atlanta a couple of weeks ago and I only spent 24 hours there. I honestly don't know if spending any more than 24 hours would've been smart because I didn't find it as fun as I thought I would. I put together a fun and unusual video of all the things I got up to. It's stupidly funny because I thought it would be cool editing in sound effects instead of talking or playing background music. Enjoy and let me know if you see something you would do. #Atlanta #MagicCity #

I Went to a Strip Club

It was the last day of August, my birthday month, when I chose to bless one of Atlanta’s strip clubs with my presence. Here’s the thing about me, I’m a very curious person. When people say that a certain place is a certain way, I want to see for myself to confirm if they are speaking facts or not. With that being said, one of the things I’ve always wanted to do in the US was to go to a strip club, because of how hip hop culture raves about them. I had heard that strip clubs i

24 Life Lessons

I’m turning 24 this week and to celebrate that, I’ve listed 24 lessons I’ve learnt in life. 1. Don’t worry. One of my biggest problems growing up has been worrying too much. I’m an over-thinker so this triggers some dark stuff that I don’t need, so I try my best to not let things get to me like that. Stop worrying too much. 2. When making a decision, check with yourself if you’re willing to deal with the problems that come with it. I got this one from one of my favorite books

A Day in the Life of an Au Pair

One of the many duties of an au pair may include traveling with your host kids without the host parents. In today's post I show you what that is like by filming the entire journey from Brooklyn to Savannah, Georgia where we'll be spending the rest of our summer. #Travel #CulturalCare #AuPair

Homelessness in New York City

Last week I spoke about how lovely New York City is, and it really is an interesting city. However, New York has its own flaws; just like our City of Gold, people come to Gotham city to hustle and make money. Not everyone who makes the brave move is fortunate enough to actually succeed though. This results in issues such as homelessness. On top of that, gentrification is displacing so many New Yorkers, who have to move out without having too many other options. According to a

New York: A South African's Perspective

What have you heard about New York City? I’ve been living in the concrete jungle for a little over six months now and I honestly do get that “If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere” vibe from this city. I don’t know if it has to do with the air, which is horribly musty in the summer, or driven people who are always looking for ways to make money, but whatever it is, I cannot help but feel empowered when walking the streets of New York. New York City is the f

Will Traveling Help Me Overcome My Weaknesses?

Has it ever been easy to admit your weaknesses? I’ve always known that I’m not really a people’s person but I never thought too much about it. That is because I would always maneuver within my comfort zone and mingle with people I only felt comfortable around. There had honestly been no need for me to confront my weaknesses until my last year in varsity when I noticed a pattern in my social life. I always had just one very close friend and the rest of the people I hung out wi

The Ultimate Guide To Traveling on a Budget

Township Girl's Travelogue is entirely based on this idea because I’m just a simple girl who likes to travel and would like to see as much as possible with the limited amount of resources I have. So this article is long overdue. Traveling is not all about the insta boujie pictures and luxury hotels, sometimes I just want to experience a new place and I will check into a hostel instead of a hotel or book an Airbnb if I need to be alone, to keep my trip within my small budget.

My Niagara Falls Solo Trip

The first time I heard about Niagara Falls was in the movie Tammy, with Melissa McCarthy. I immediately put it on my bucket list and I’m so happy I got to go. I especially wanted to go on the Lady of the Mist but she wasn’t running because it was still icy, so that means I have to go back, I also need to see the falls from the Canadian side because I heard it's better. I also just need to see exactly where Jim and Pam got married. Another reason for the trip was to recuperate

How Powerful is Your South African Passport?

Did you know that you could travel to a hundred other countries without needing to get a visa with your South African passport? One of the most annoying things about traveling is the visa process. The fact that you can spend so many hours filling in forms and paying fees only to have your visa application rejected is just a headache. Possessing the South African passport however, exempts you from going through that headache when your destination is one of the hundred countrie

Music Festival Survival Guide

I went to the Roots Picnic in Philly this weekend and I got to admit, I’m pretty proud of myself for being as prepared as I was, especially considering the fact that it was my first time ever going to a festival. However, I think I witnessed about three people faint and a couple other unfortunate things happened there so I thought I’d put together a survival guide for those thinking about going to a festival. Before we get into that though, there was a gun scare that caused a

So...I Went to The Church of Scientology

I was walking up Eighth Avenue from Port Authority Bus Terminal through a market that had quite delicious smelling food, admiring all the things the locals had to offer. I had to make a right on Forty-sixth Street because I was on my way to the Marriott Marquis Hotel for an event that I later found out on arrival, was actually on June 14th and not today. That little voice in the back of my head must have known that I was setting myself up for failure when it told me to go bac

7 Ways To Deal With Homesickness

Someone recently told me that they are scared of moving abroad because they know they won’t be able to handle being away from home and that they reached out to me because I make it look so easy. However, I have had my own share of homesickness, I may not have shared it online because I don’t post everything about my life but I absolutely go through moments of homesickness. I also go through moments of feeling like I’m missing out on things that are happening back home. I was

Kunjo: Sleeping Beauty

Being black in America is an extreme sport and being a black man in America automatically makes you "fit the description". I had the pleasure of interviewing my second incredible human, Kunjo; a freelance photographer. Kunjo is passionate about black men healing in a world that does not want to see them thrive and be free. I decided to film a video because I felt like this important message needed to be heard as clearly as possible. I hope you enjoy this video and you learn s

My Wendy Williams Show Experience

I think it is known by everyone close to me that I am a Wendy lover! If you didn't know, now you know. I went to the Wendy Williams Show last week and I had the best time! I decided to switch it up a little and vlog about instead of writing about it because some things are better shown than told about. If you happen to be in New York I would highly recommend that you go to her show, I feel like it's one of those New York things to do that tourists don't usually think of doing

5 Ways To Make Local Friends Wherever You Go

The best part about traveling for me is meeting people and learning from them. What’s even better is forming friendships with people from all over the world. That is why I’ve made it a point this year to network and befriend local people. When I was in Texas & California, I kept to myself and created a strong bond with fellow South Africans. Which was amazing but I feel like I missed out on a lot of good local things that I could’ve been exposed to if I had local friends. Fir
