Next week New Stagers’ dons big hair, bold make up and shimmery bodysuits as it enters into the not so glamorous world of glam rock with our production of Remember Me This Way. This is a new play written and directed by Ian Pring. We caught up with him to find out how its been going and why glam rock: Q: So what is the play about? New Stagers are delighted to announce that our recent production of ‘Happy to Help’ has been honoured with a National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) Flame Award. Put a red circle round her flaws: the relevance of our April show

By Simon Truscott Unbelievably, we are now over a year into Donald Trump’s presidency. He is clearly a man known for his egalitarian, progressive attitude towards women. The Harvey Weinstein harassment scandal still sending shockwaves around the world and into every profession or industry, thanks to #MeToo. The gender pay gap seems just as pervasive. The question is, how did they happen in 2017? How is it acceptable for these to remain such a huge problem in 2018 when lads ma

Ghosts: how are the cast finding the experience?

With just a few weeks to go until curtains go up on our production of ‘Ghosts’ (and the skies over the Norwegian fjords come crashing down!), we spoke to our cast to get their thoughts on the classic Scandi noir and their first impressions of the playwright himself, Henrik Ibsen. Vanessa Marchant - Mrs Alving I knew very little about Ibsen other than that his plays could be long-winded and dull. So when Ian said he was putting Ghosts forward I was not convinced. Then we had a

‘Follow Me’ director Stephen Beard discusses the show dedicated to his grandmother

Stephen Beard, director of Follow Me and Ruth Ellis’ grandson on his accidental discovery of the play and what the show means to him and his family. Ruth Ellis was the last woman in Britain to be hanged by the most ‘decorated’ executioner of our time, Albert Pierrepoint. Ruth Ellis was my grandmother. She shot her lover in Hampstead in a fit of rage. She purposely offered no defence and left the court with no other choice but to hang her. The case received a huge public backl

From Pirate to Maid – a New Member’s blog

One of our newest members, Christine Peirson writes about her experience joining the group and being in both our panto, Treasure Island, and Blithe Spirit Before January, the last time I had been on a stage was way back in University! I’d always wanted to get back into it, but unfortunately, being slightly nervous about joining a group in London and working shifts kind of put a halt to it. Things changed when I moved to a 9-5 job and found I actually had time on my hands, so

Interview with Bouncer's Director

With just a few weeks to go until curtains are raised on ‘Bouncers & Shakers’, we spoke with first time director, Veronica Montalbetti on her experiences in the director’s chair, the creative process and why she chose Bouncers as her debut piece! Why bouncers / Shakers? I have seen Bouncers performed a couple of times and it is lots of fun. There are so many moments the audience can relate to, I sat watching, thinking “oh yea I’ve met that guy” or “I’ve cried over that boy”.
