September Round Up

After a summer break for the the monthly roundup, we are back and have plenty of results to talk about. Here are just a few highlights from September. The first race of the month was the Maidenhead Half on 1 September. As usual, we had plenty of Dashers in this, fairly local, event and we had some great performances. Congratulations go to Toby Bayes, Ronald Davies and Steve Hartigan for their PBs. Jill Collett set a new club record running 1:19:16 in the FV35 age group. Maide

Putting Datchet on the map

Dashers continued the running year in May with a packed month and the start of our summer 5k series. Here are some of the highlights from May. We started off on 1 May with a post from Rob Foster thanking the club for donating old trainers and shoes for him to pass on to the Shoe Aid Charity. Rob was able to deliver over 100 pairs from the club which Lee Todd the founder of the charity was incredible thankful for. Thank you Dashers! The first event was the Shinfield 10k which

It’s a marathon, not a sprint (pt 3)

In the third part of our spring marathon blog, we look at the London marathon and get the views of two Dashers who took part. Firstly, Winston Matthews and for him the 2019 marathon was very special. Winston writes, London is always special for me, the city I was born in and have spent most my working life. 2019 was my 7th London Marathon and my 14th Marathon in eight years of running. I hate running, I am a cyclist and only took up running to lose weight. I was 17.5st when

It’s a marathon, not a sprint (pt 2)

This is the second in our series of spring marathon blogs and this time we look at Brighton. We have two different views of Brighton – from Jill Collett who has run marathons before and from Paul Murgett who was running his first marathon. Brighton Jill says: I chose Brighton as I wanted to do a spring marathon and the London one fills me with fear and anxiety due to it being such a big event. I was fortunate due to the time I ran in Dublin 2018 to qualify for an elite p

It’s a marathon, not a sprint (pt 1)

Have you ever thought about doing a marathon and then immediately dismissed the idea as nonsense? In this short series of blogs, we look at some of the spring marathons Datchet Dashers members have run and talk to some of them about their experiences and (hopefully) help you decide if running a marathon is for you and if so, which one. Manchester Bella Shah gives her thoughts on Manchester 2019; I was disappointed 2 years ago not to be able to run Manchester marathon due

March Round Up

Community Engagement March has continued in true Datchet Dashers form. As reported last month (we couldn’t wait) March started with Dash in the Dark – I don’t propose to say any more about the event itself but I do want to say that with all the cakes left over (Dashers do like cake) our chairman, Bryony, visited Slough Outreach which works with local homeless people to donate the cakes to them so that people were able to have something sweet with their tea and coffee. The February Round Up

After an amazing start to 2019 in January, February continued the successful start with Dashers participating in a number of events including the Hillingdon Half, Thorpe & Egham Half, Brighton Half, Bramley 20, Hampton Court Half, Tunbridge Wells Half, Superheroes and Supervillains Run, Windsor Winter Fun Run 5k and 15k – apologies if I’ve missed any but I think you get a sense of the variety and geographical spread of events our members participate in. I want to focus on som

parkrun roundup - 23rd February 2018

54 runs at 16 runs, led home by Rob McHarg who set a new MV50 5k club record at Bushy, beating his previous record by 24 seconds with a time of 17:21. This was also a new MV55 record at Bushy, and any record at Bushy is no mean feat. It was also an age grading of 88.4% which is the highest I have ever recorded for any Dasher. There were also three PBs recorded at Upton Court. Kirsty Howe knocked 40 second off her best, Birgit Cunningham sliced off 38 seconds and Christine Fox

Starting the year with a win...or three!

Cliveden We made sure to start the year as quickly and as speedily as we could. For the Cliveden 10k on Sunday 6 January, 68 Dashers entered, making up almost 10% of the field, surely that in itself deserves a medal. The race is described as 6 miles of scenic but testing terrain in the beautiful grounds of Cliveden House – after running the dreaded steps, would you agree? It certainly didn’t prove any major obstacle for some runners, we had 5 Dashers in the top 10 positions.

Annual Racing Statistics - 2018

So what did we race in 2018? Well we raced slightly more races than 2017 at a faster pace, but over slightly shorter distances. The main reason for this is probably the fact we ran more parkruns, up from 2458 in 2017 to 2876 in 2018. However, we still completed races from 800m right up to 255km. Fastest race time of the year was Ken Brown who did a track 800m in 00:02:28.5 whilst the longest was a 38:53:31 162km trek through Greek mountains & forests by Martin Ilott. In fact,
