I’ve always been drawing since I was a kid, but they were mostly just doodles such as stick figures, random shapes, etc. It wasn't until my sophomore year in high school where I finally took an interest in art, such as illustration. The interest started when I first attended an after school screen printing club. There was one member of the club in particular that got me into the idea of pursuing illustration as a career. The way he drew really stood out to me and got me motivated to start drawing and so forth. Along the way, there were also a few other members as well that got me inspired to create certain concepts for my work. When I first attended an art college during the Fall of 2013, both the competition and motivation of other classmates helped me expand my skill set both technically and conceptually as an aspring artist. Outside influences such as Dabs and Myla, Ermsy, Punimelt, and Steve Lowtwait helped me progress throughout my progress. Although I’m struggling to break out of my comfort zone when it comes to style, nonetheless I still enjoy creating art as both a career and a hobby. This is the only major that I’ve pursued for a long time and I wouldn’t want to throw it away at any time. Truth be told, this is the only thing that I really know how to do, and yet I still feel like I still have not reached the level of professionalism towards my works.

Why Vent? Why vent? I am older now, I can deal with what I feel by just suppressing it and moving on. Venting is complaining about what I cannot seem to do or what others cannot do!  While holding a conversation I was asked that question. Why vent? For some, it does seem as if it is just complaining about the day or complaining about what we cannot do. Then I simply explained what venting could do. Showing a different perspective on the same topic. Venting is not about complaining about anything nor is it a time for someone to think or take things a certain way. The way that I think about it is simple. There is a river that runs, the stream is constant, the water flows beautifully down the stream and animals come into the water to come get something to drink. Yet there are certain days that rocks will fall into the river, at first it might not be a lot of rocks so we do not move them nor do we really pay much attention to them. Then some days a storm comes, it takes us and destroys the trees around us pushing debris in to the river. So much debri to the point that the water no longer runs down stream. Venting is talking about what has happened to you or how everything has happened to you, taking notice that there are certain things blocking the river in your mind.  When we start to vent there will be times that others will offer to help us with what they heard, other times venting to others and just having someone there to hear what we have to say is all the help we need. We choke on the words we do not say, blocking our river from flowing how it should. Venting offers the chance to get rid of some of the things that are blocking it by talking about it. Talking about how we feel and venting about the day does not always mean we have to talk to a therapist or any specialist, we can talk to anyone that is willing to listen. If you seem to be ever caught in a time that no one is there to talk, think of us. We are here to listen to what you have to say.  No matter the age that you are, there will be sometimes that our river will get blocked and it is okay to talk about it. It is okay to have some there to listen to what you have to say. Take what bothers you out and see the difference. It is about the little things that we do to make us feel better when nothing seems to be going our way. It is about being able to do something that is simple yet can have one of the biggest impacts.  If anyone is ever feeling down about anything and wants to vent to someone please do not hesitate to talk to us! We are here for you!

Same body, New Person

In a world where we see constant change, we get caught in what could have been and what is. For some of us, we are living the life that we want and for others we are living the life that others want us to live. Some of us are lost in the maze of life, constantly finding no end and only walls. When we look into the mirror, for some, we see flaws, we see someone that we want to change. Someone we are not happy with.

Every day is a new day. That means that there is a new day to take on the challenges that we had cast aside the day before. It is a chance for us to start to see what we want to change, not only physically, but emotionally and mentally.

Happiness starts with you. It starts with knowing what makes you happy and knowing what you enjoy doing. What little things do you do that bring you back to the mindset of pure happiness? There has been a point in everyone’s life when they did something that made them happy, but it is important to realize that that something doesn’t have to be grand but rather something small. It was something small, a little thing, that changed the tide of emotions that day. For many of us, it is doing little things like going to a park and sitting on a bench to reminisce a time of meeting someone there. Or it could even be going into the mall and seeing something that you used to collect; it brought back memories of the times that you would try and hunt down a collectible that you had been looking for. It can be just about anything that has ever brought a smile to your face.

As someone that once worked in sales, I had to make sure that, us salesman, met the quotas that we were given. We had to deal with different customers in every occasion and no customer was the same. While some interactions were easier than others, each one brought its own set of emotions. While each client involved their emotions, I saw that the coworkers and colleges that I had at the time where also sharing their own emotions and bringing them into the day. I was getting hit with wave after wave of emotions from everyone around me that my emotions started to change the person I was.

I was molding myself into someone else, aiming to please those around me and not myself. I was losing myself, becoming someone I was not happy with. I was trying so hard not to become someone that I did not know yet I forgot to stay true to myself and understand who I was. Until the day I decided to be a new person in the same body. Being able to be someone new, a new version of myself that understood myself. Instead of constantly trying to change my body and who I was for others, I decided that the change starts with being a new person for you. A person that understands the reasons why we react to what others say and the emotions that they bring.

It is about becoming someone that you, yourself understand.
