Plastic waste – why non-reusable cups are destroying the planet

Our guest contributor this month is Amelia Womack, the Deputy Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales since September 2014, with a short thought piece. To me it's clear that people simply want the easiest and cheapest option to be the greenest option. As more information is presented to the public then I think many people are shocked at how their daily habits are destroying the planet. Throw away coffee cups are just one example of that. You only need to look into a re

Why tree planting is essential to achieving net zero

Our guest contributor this month is Amelia Womack, the Deputy Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales since September 2014, with a short thought piece. Just over a year ago, the UN gave us a stark warning that we had just 12 years to take action to combat climate change. Since then, councils and parliaments have been declaring climate emergencies and have outlined a range of targets to ensure that our planet stays below 1.5 degrees of warming. One of the terms often us

At GoReusable, being official partners of the National Forest Foundation, we're big into planting trees. Our aim is to plant 10 million trees by the end of 2025, with the help of our Plant One Tree Cup. We thought 10m was a big number and good goal but this week we've seen extinction rebellion are talking about planting 1 trillion trees. Did you see all the placards saying 'Plant 1 Trillion Trees'?. Now that's a big number. Apparently scientists have worked out that 1 trillio

Branded eco cups with gold ink & ultra high quality printing

We wanted to share with you this stunningly branded eco cup, that has just been printed for the RHUG Estate. We used gold ink for this branded cup. That gives that extra bit of lift and extra quality to the cup. You really have to see it first hand to appreciate it. There was a lot of detailing in the coat of arms as well. This is a great example to show you the quality of the printing. This is a question we are often asked. Well, it's high precision!! The naked eye can't get

Tree planting and its amazing legacy

Our guest contributor this month is Amelia Womack, the Deputy Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales since September 2014, with a short thought piece. Sometimes it feels like there is nothing more humble that a tree, when it's a natural playground as you climbed trees as a child, that friendly protector as they shield us from the sun or even as a thing of beauty in our parks and gardens. Their existence is something we take for granted as we whirl through our busy liv

Why I festival with my Reusable cup.

Our guest contributor this month is Amelia Womack, the Deputy Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales since September 2014, with a short thought piece. To me the epitome of summer is taking time off work and enjoying the range of festivals on offer across the UK and even in the rest of Europe. It's such a perfect way to absorb yourself in culture and soak up those summer rays. As I pack my tent and sleeping bag, I always ensure that I have my trusty keep cup packed and

Reusables on the rise

At GoReusable we’re big fans of anything reusable, especially if it helps to reduce dependence on throw-away plastic. There has been a lot of talk lately about the circular economy – the concept of avoiding waste by prioritising reuse. Riding on this trend, a New Jersey based company called TerraCycle has launched a new service called Loop in the US Northeast. They have partnered with major consumer goods companies, such as Proctor & Gamble, Nestlé and Unilever, to produce v

David Attenborough Turns 93

Sir David Attenborough turned 93 this month, but he’s more relevant than ever. With his Blue Planet II and Climate Change – The Facts programmes and his People’s Seat address to the United Nations, he has really made people across Britain and beyond sit up and pay attention. This increased awareness of the negative impact we’re having on our environment is starting to change consumer behaviour. In a recent GlobalWebIndex survey, 53% of British and US consumers reported that t

Our cups now plant trees!

We’re excited to announce that our cups will soon be even more eco-friendly thanks to a deal with US charity the National Forest Foundation (NFF). The packaging of our next batch of eco cups will be labelled ‘THIS CUPS PLANTS ONE TREE’, because for each cup purchased, a tree will be planted in an area of degraded forest. We did extensive research before deciding to partner with the NFF. We were impressed to discover that they have planted 13.5 million trees since 2001 to rest

How to encourage reusable cup use

If your organisation is looking to invest in reusable coffee cups, whether to give away to staff or customers or to offer for sale, of course you want people to use them. But what’s the best way to encourage them to do so? Here in the UK several major coffee chains now offer discounts of up to 50p to customers who bring their own cups. This has had a positive impact on the use of reusable cups, and the higher the discount, the more difference it seems to make. Consumer feed

Reading Town Community Gets Together To Say ‘No to Plastic’

Since Blue Planet II highlighted the huge scale of ocean plastic, public awareness of the problems associated with single use plastic has risen. But how does 12 million tonnes of plastic really end up in the sea each year? On a chilly Saturday evening in November, Reading Towns main shopping street in the UK came to a standstill to watch a giant, glowing puppet of a whale glide by, accompanied by graceful jellyfish, all crafted from disposable plastic. The spectacle began wit

Me and my cup – why I use a reusable cup and the environmental and personal benefits

By Amelia Womack - Deputy Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales since September 2014 My love of a good cup of tea is unwavering, and I am unsure of a time that I have turned down the chance to have one. I have tea as my first drink of the day, tea when I travel and tea in the meetings I attend (admittedly along with a rejuvenating mid-morning coffee). With 2.5 billion coffee cups being thrown away each year, I am proud that I carry my trusty reusable cup with me to m

Single-use is the Word of the Year

With all the buzz surrounding single-use plastics, perhaps it’s no surprise that ‘single-use’ has just been selected as the Collins Word of the Year 2018. ‘The plastic bag tax, a crackdown on disposable items such as cotton buds and coffee cups, and popular global beverage chains declaring their commitment to reducing waste by offering discounts to those who bring their own cup, 2018 was a watershed moment for individuals and corporate bodies alike that will hopefully lead to

How can we tackle the UK’s single-use cup crisis?

Earlier this month, commuter newspaper Metro featured this shocking photo of an overflowing litter bin on a London street, surrounded by disposable coffee cups. This really brings home the huge waste problem that our love of takeaway coffee is creating. Because standard paper-based coffee cups are lined with plastic, they can only be recycled at specialist facilities, and only around 1% of them are. Most of the 2.5 billion disposable coffee cups used in the UK each year, ju

Love this Panda eating Bamboo

This short Panda video was posted on Instagram and we couldn't help but come across it. It brought a smile to our faces and thought it might do the same for you. In case you're not aware at GoReusable, all our cups have a little discreet 'panda eating bamboo' icon towards the bottom of each cup to show the users support for our campaign and gently connecting the cup to the fact the cups are all made with bamboo. With that in mind, it's not surprising that this 'Panda eating b

Out to China to view suppliers bamboo coffee cup factories

We were out in China last week checking our first of many big orders of cups and inspecting a number of factories. Nothing can beat getting out there and seeing first hand China and the factories. We met an impressive group of people and learnt a lot. The picture is us about to board a high speed train from Shanghai - reached 300km/h, and this is a slow high speed train for China! GoReusable is on the move and gathering speed (like Chinese trains). Want to get involved? Conta
