It started with a 9-year-old boy who had holes in his shoes. When Jacarrie Carr, a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student, saw the boy and heard about his desire to play basketball, he felt compelled to act. 📷 More than a thousand pairs of shoes found new feet Saturday, Aug. 20, at the third annual “Jacarrie’s Kicks for Kids.” Jacarrie Carr, a School of Education alum and graduate student, started the project three years ago while still an undergrad when he realized many families couldn’t afford school shoes for their children. Jacarrie Carr was determined his event would be heard by the community, so he went out on foot through the neighborhoods of Milwaukee. He printed and handed out 500 filers to day cares, barbershops, restaurants and he even rung doorbells. Jacarrie, a 25-year-old UW-Milwaukee student, went on social media sites: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, spreading his event.
