Norway Travelogue - 24th November

When club members at Penryn Camera Club deliver a “travelogue” talk for members we always get an evening of very varied subject matter as the images will all be about what the photographer saw and liked. With images taken often from all parts of the world we get examples of taking photographs in different types of lighting and requiring different techniques. Last week Ann Glynn gave the club just such a talk from a recent cruise trip to Norway. With images taken from stops al

Lucky Dip - 3rd November

Variety is the spice of life they say, and we certainly put variety into our annual programme at Penryn Camera Club. Two weeks ago Jan Godridge gave an excellent talk accompanied by her own photos from family travels in the United States, Spain and our own county of Cornwall. Travelogues are fascinating and give great opportunities to take photos of stunning scenery and landscapes and Jan had lots of images with amazing colours and subjects. Then last week we had a fun compet

Modelling first- week ending 13th October

The firsts just keep coming at Penryn Camera Club! Last week members had their first model evening of the new season – and we were delighted that our new members were all available to be there with us. The club’s “battle” secretary – Victor Tulin lead the evening. As well as being responsible for managing our photographic competitions with other clubs Victor enjoys portraiture photography. He brought along 3 studio lights and a backdrop and Lydia who modelled for the evening.

The results are in!

Our first two competitions of the club year have taken place and were judged by Richard Thomas from Helston Camera Club. As usual with a competition results evening it was fascinating to see the images that our club members had submitted and to hear Richard’s comments. There is a real learning opportunity for us all as he explained his decisions. Great Night In or Out!

The new season at Penryn Camera Club is only a few weeks old and we’ve had another first for the new club year – Thursday’s meeting saw our first practical evening. Members arrived at the Space with their cameras and assorted gear they were presented with two opportunities for the evening. With the weather not looking great there was the option of staying in the hall and photographing a variety of items using tripods and different light sources. For the more adventurous a bri

A Social Sunday Lunch

The last few weeks have seen a couple of firsts for the Penryn Camera club for this season. The week before last we had the hand-in for our first two competitions and on the same evening we had our first training session, looking at the basics of exposure. This session was a great starter for our new members but along with the critique of images that accompanied the talk it was a useful reminder for all members of how important it is to look at all aspects when preparing to c

New Beginnings - 8th September

Well, we’re back! The week we’ve been waiting for all summer finally arrived and we at Penryn Camera Club, had our first meeting of the new club year! It was great to be back, to meet up with old friends and discuss the photos that we’d taken. As members arrived at our club venue, The Space at Penryn Rugby Club, Kernick Road, Penryn the level of noise grew as the chatter increased. The first half of our first evening is always a settling in time with announcements of what’s t

Tea on the lawn - Report 1st September

Its an exciting time for Penryn Camera Club as the summer holiday season comes to a close. On Sunday club members were once again very blessed by Stuart and Fleur Ford as they held yet another of their famed Cream Teas. Members enjoyed a variety of brilliant homemade scones and cream and a choice of Fleur’s amazing cakes. There were further cakes auctioned off so a good sum was again donated to the club’s funds for the purchase of equipment. As always great thanks go out to F

Club Visit to King Edward Mine - Report 25 August

Summer time is a time for relaxation, for holidays away from work and often a time to catch up with family and friends. The good weather means opportunities to get out the cameras and take images in a whole range of light conditions as the daylight hours are extended with good photographic conditions often available at both ends of the day/ It is also a time when camera clubs are “resting” with no evening meetings. At Penryn Camera Club we like to try to use this time to have

Out for lunch - 28th July

Camera clubs are all about taking photos. Right? Well wrong actually! And not all camera clubs are the same. Right! At Penryn Camera Club, like most other camera clubs right now we are in the middle of our summer break so we are not meeting on our regular Thursday evenings but that doesn’t mean we don’t meet. We still get together to go out on afternoons, evenings and even some very early mornings members have met to get photos. But at our club fellowship, friendship, meeting

A sea of poppies - report 23rd June 2019

On Thursday, some of our members took advantage of the more settled weather, to make their way to the Newquay area, firstly, with a visit to see the Pentire Poppies. It was a beautiful morning with azure blue skies and fluffy cotton wool looking clouds, great conditions to get some evocative images! The fields of poppies were a sea of red and some fields were dotted with yellow rape seed flowers, which contrasted beautifully with the red of the poppies. These great colours we

Getting out and about..

The varying weather of late has not stopped members of the Penryn Camera Club getting out and about! Recently a number of our members went east in the county to Roche Rock, near St Austell for a lovely day out with their cameras. Blessed with good weather – between the light showers! – the conditions gave beautiful blue skies, with white fluffy cloud formations and not too much sun – all the conditions that cn make for perfect phots. After lunch they went on to Wheal Martyn C

Visit to Trellissick

Like other camera clubs across Cornwall Penryn Camera Club takes full advantage of the lighter evenings to get out “on location” during the summer months rather than hold its meetings indoors. But that doesn’t mean there is less for club members to do! A full and busy programme of events has been put together for club members. The first of these was a visit to the National Trust gardens of Trellissick. This is a great location for photography where photos of landscape, seasca

Whose that baby ?

How different can two camera club meetings be? Last Thursday was another fun evening as members brought digital images of themselves from times long ago. Members had to guess who was who and what the occasion was. More importantly we discussed the different photographic techniques used to produce the images all those years ago. Tuesday of this week the club went to Truro College for the annual Cornwall Photographic Association competition. The competition features prints subm
