WPC urges caution on toll debt bill

Washington Policy Center, a free-market think tank based in Seattle, just released their blog urging extreme caution in bonding I-405 and Gateway tolls. Their blog follows, but for the page please visit: https://www.washingtonpolicy.org/publications/detail/toll-bill-would-set-us-up-for-gridlock-and-debt-for-decades Toll bill would set us up for gridlock and debt for decades By MARIYA FROST Love them or hate them (and most people hate them), the toll lanes are certainly taking

Regional planners show after billions spent, traffic congestion gets worse

Planners from the Puget Sound Regional Council - the four-county Metropolitan Planning Organization and Regional Transportation Planning Organization – have released their draft Vision 2050 document for public comment. The public, expected to read the 227-page plan and the following 217-page appendices, has until April 29 to provide commentary. However, the plan’s transportation program has much to be desired. They include three separate scenarios. They call one of those scen

ETA recommends “Thinking Big” on transportation proposal

Last week, Senate Transportation Committee Chair Steve Hobbs (D-Lake Stevens) released his transportation proposal to fund transportation projects across Washington state. The ETA provided public comment, with Chair Emeritus Vic Bishop stating that the proposal falls short, citing the $15 billion needed on I-405 per PSRC’s Regional Transportation Plan. Bishop noted that ETA has spent 30 years working on improving I-405. His sobering analysis states that we are one-third of th

Traffic #1 issue among Bellevue residents and businesses

It's no surprise, traffic congestion is getting worse. So bad in fact, that Bellevue residents ranked traffic number one of the “Top Five Mentioned Biggest Problems Facing Bellevue” in the City’s biennial budget survey. Though overall satisfaction in city government is high, the statistically-valid survey results show that traffic is mentioned nearly at a three-to-one clip over the next biggest problem, housing affordability. It’s not just residents that are fed up with traff

I-1631 will increase costs at the pump

Washington Policy Center's Todd Myers dissects Initiative 1631 - including how much it will raise prices at the pump. Initially, carbon taxes will add about $0.13 per gallon of gas in 2020, increasing to $0.73 per gallon in 2040, assuming a 3% inflation rate. Keep in mind, these "gas taxes" are not protected by the 18th Amendment to the State Constitution and won't go to making your trip quicker, unlike the traditional gas tax. MAKE I-405 WORK AGAIN!

ETA is committed to mobility along the busy and critical I-405 corridor, the lifeline of Eastside communities.  Congestion on I-405 costs time, money, and lives and it impacts our economic vitality.  We call on WSDOT to immediately prioritize congestion relief along I-405 by constructing additional lanes between interchanges and making additional changes to the Express Lanes.  We demand that WSDOT add TWO additional general purpose lanes in each direction between Renton and B
