Nearly fully booked before Christmas....

It's been AGES since I last posted here. I've been updating some of the information on the website. But while I'm here, I'd better let you know, we only have a few slots left for delivery before our end of year shutdown. Our final delivery day is Saturday 21st December. The office is closed from Sunday 22nd December and doesn't re-open until Saturday 5th January 2020, which is also our first delivery day of the new year. When the office is closed, telephone calls will not b

Happy ending for poorly trees

You may have heard on the news about Ash die-back. A horrid disease affecting the ash trees in this country. To try and prevent the disease spreading further, landowners are felling trees with the disease. Nick has been helping his son Keith this week with the felling of some ash trees on the farm where our yard is based. Sad though this is - and let's hope new saplings are planted in their place - the felled trees are being added to our wood stock. Ash is quick to season and

Nostalgia for today's world

We are almost out of stock of our green nets we use for thrift and logs. In my continual efforts to reduce waste/plastic etc, I am looking for alternatives. I have just ordered samples of canvas drawstring bags for sizing. So instead of purchasing a net of logs or thrift and discarding the net after opening, I am considering selling logs and thrift in these canvas bags, with an initial extra cost for the bag, but further bags will be cheaper if the bags are exchanged each tim

Get in now before the price increase

We will be introducing our new prices on 6th April 2019. We have worked out all the costings very carefully. We have to put up the prices, otherwise we will be making a loss and that's a surefire method of running the business into the ground. The price of wood increases every year, the price of diesel at the pumps also continues to increase. But we also have to buy red diesel for the tractors - and the price of red diesel has increased by 40% in the last two years!!! And th

Happy to announce...

...we are now taking orders for deliveries again. Nick is still unable to drive or operate the processor, but with help cutting the loads and I'm doing the driving, we can continue to supply firewood. It is however, a simplified service. We can only deliver standard and half loads, because I don't drive with the trailer. It also means each delivery takes longer (I'm having to drive the wheelbarrow as well!), so we can't complete as many deliveries a day as usual. Nick and I

Important News

Nick is currently out of action following a chainsaw accident on 3rd February. He is okay but we don't yet know when he'll be back at work. We have some assistance cutting firewood for orders and I am delivering the orders myself. However, I can't deliver as many loads on my own and I can't deliver loads that need the trailer. So I am having to reschedule the deliveries that we had booked for this month (and February was almost fully booked) to fit in with this temporary situ

RIP old green wheelbarrow

... and hello new yellow wheelbarrow. Nick finally changed the old, split and bent metal wheelbarrow bucket for a lovely new yellow plastic one. No more snagging myself on the sharp edges.
