Sugar addiction is real. It's as real as any other addiction. Our bodies and minds can become addicted to sugar and send signals that pure will-power alone cannot overcome. If you have a sweet tooth often but are able to say "no" to those cravings most of the time, then that could just be a habit you have created for years and need to go cold turkey to change your taste buds and cravings. This type of sugar craving is a mild sugar addiction that can be fixed by change of diet. Doing a sugar detox and gut healing protocol could easily fix your sugar cravings. I'll share some supplements and resources at the end of this post to help with this type of sugar cravings. I do recommend working with a functional practitioner to help you target exactly why you are craving sugar though. If you often feel out of control, guilty or shameful for your eating patterns then you could be dealing with a more severe sugar addiction or an eating disorder. Will-power alone will not work for this type of sugar addiction.

What are the signs of disordered eating or sugar addiction? Feeling powerless against late night snacking. Sneak sweets or carb loaded foods every day. Hide food and eat it in private. Crave sugar after every meal. Binge on sweets or carbs. Consuming sugary foods even though you are full. I believe I have had an eating disorder since early teens, or late childhood, really ever since I can remember. My dad always had pop and sweets in the house so I think from an early age my taste buds were exposed to large amounts of sugar and that altered my gut microbiome, which made me crave sugar a lot. But I look back now and realize some of the things I did were not just sugar addiction but were actual signs of emotional eating and food disorders. Some people turn to binge eating during stress, some people are the opposite and restrict food instead of binging, both of these are unhealthy and problematic to your mental and physical well-being. If you've ever struggled with bulimia, binge eating, or anorexia, then your sugar cravings could be a much deeper rooted issue that supplements alone cannot fix. If you are a stress or emotional eater then I would recommend counseling or meditation to start with. We can't fix the food addiction patterns without fixing our mind first. I highly encourage you to read some books, talk to loved ones about your struggle or a therapist. This is the beginning of overcoming disordered and emotional eating. Maybe not everyone has a disorder when it comes to sugar addiction. Your body could just be so used to sugar and unhealthy eating that it's too hard to go cold turkey off sugar. I want to share some supplements that can help anyone on this spectrum of sugar addiction. I do encourage you to look into nutritional deficiencies, gut imbalances, and hormone levels. Other things to try... L glutamine, bitter melon extract, garcinia cambogia, omega-3 supplementation, increasing healthy fats and protein in your daily diet. I've tried all of these supplements and can say they have helped me a lot. Definitely don't just go and buy all of them, start with one or two and see if it helps you. Always ask your doctor or practitioner if these are safe for you. I also want to add that you may need to do a full sugar detox and a candida protocol to truly stop the cravings for good. Making spaghetti just got easier! It took me a while to get the hang of using my Instant Pot pressure cooker. Now that I am used to it I try and use it for dinner whenever I can. Spaghetti is one of those dinners that takes 2-3 pans to make. This is why I love using the instant pot because you only dirty one pot, which makes clean up way easier! TBH that's the only reason I use my instant pot haha.

 

So this recipe was for a lot of spaghetti so that I had left overs. By all means half all the ingredients if you don't have a large enough instant pot or don't want to make that much. Leftovers for the win though!

 

 

 

Let's skip all my family stories and get right to the recipe...

 

 

Ingredients:

2 lb ground venison or lean beef

43 oz your favorite spaghetti sauce

10-12 oz gluten free spaghetti noodles ( I used these)

1 cup filtered water

1 tsp garlic powder

1 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

1 tbls ghee

optional add diced onions or veggies of choice.

 

Directions:

 

1.Turn 8 qrt instant pot to saute

brown hamburger with 1 tbls ghee and seasonings.

add onion or veggies towards the end of hamburger being browned.

If you have a higher fat meat, drain fat out, or just leave it, that is up to you. The meat I used didn't have any fat to drain.

2. Turn saute off. Break noodles in half and criss cross over top of meat.

3.Pour sauce over noodles.

3. pour water over noddles and spread the liquid around so it covers as much of the noodles as possible. leave noodles above meat though.

4. Close lid and turn on manual pressure cooking to 8 minutes.

5. once time is up let it self release for 5 minutes then manual release steam and open lid.

6. stir well. Serve in a bowl with goat cheese on top. I always add a little salt over dish as well. Enjoy! Ruby

I can't tell you how many keto or paleo cookie dough recipes I've tried off pinterest that have been a fail. It's also hard finding one that is dairy free, grain free, and now with the discovery of my egg allergy, egg free. I came across a recipe that inspired this one I've created. I switched up a few of the ingredients and am ready to share it with the world afer making it a few times. I baked them as cookies first, but they kinda fell apart while you ate them. The texture and taste was good, just didn't hold together well without those eggs. You can eat this raw or try baking it and see how it works for you! Mix together 1 egg replacer I use bob's redmill. (you could try an egg here I think it would work fine) 1/2 cup avocado oil 1/4 cup powdered monk fruit by lakanto ( you could try any powdered or granulated sugar replacement) 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cup tigernut flour 1/4-1/2 cup sugar free chocolate chips optional - added vanilla creme stevia drops for added sweetness mix and bake like regular cookies at 350 or eat as cookie dough. Store leftovers in fridge. I hope you like this treat like I do! Try it the next time you are craving something sweet.
