Hello Gems! I love February! One of my favorite months of the year. This month is full of love and I just want to celebrate it. In February we pay homage and celebrate Black History also, I have two kids that celebrate birthdays right around Valentine's Day, which makes February even more special.

So since we basically celebrate all through the month of Feburary, I thought it would be cool to do a special Valentines themed wardrobe series! A completely wearable cohesive line of interchangable pieces that I would wear to celebrate the month of love.

Dresses are lovely but sometimes it seems you only get one look out of them and not much versatility. Unless of course its your classic little black dress. As you already know I love versitility and I need it in my life. So I created a dress that I could play with a little.

This look at first seems to be a beautiful skirt and blouse but it is actually Simplicity Dress pattern R10353 . To tell you the truth I cut this pattern with the intention of making a straight forward dress pattern, but as I started putting the pieces together this look took on on a whole new life of its own. So the pattern hacking began!

Don't get me wrong, I love this dress pattern as it is. Its gorgeous and I do plan to make this dress as presented on the pattern because I love the cut but, for this Valentines look I wanted something a little different.

There were only a few changes I made to this pattern to create this look. First, on the neck line I extended the neck binding to create a tie. I felt it gave me the option to wear a more open neckline or tied for something a little more demure. Second, I created a gathered or rouched effect by adding ties on the inside of the skirt. I felt this created a very interesting silhouette and also gave me the choice to wear the hem line higher or lower. Third, the sleeve originally called for elastic around the hem yet I decided to keep the sleeves free flowing.

I styled this look with a pair of palozzo tiered pants (more details on the pants to come) that took this dress to another level. I love the idea of pants under dresses and skirts. This is a easy way to create another look with your dresses. Try pairing it with a a pair of bell bottoms or straight leg jean. This works great with flowy, feminine style dresses. As for shoes! With palazzo pants this look just about scraps the ground and even at 5'11 I'm grabbing my platform sandals for this one.😘

Just sayin....😏

Peace & Love,

Marcia

Hello Gems! Valentine's Day is tomorrow and Ive been celebrating all week long with this Valentine's Themed Wardrobe Series. Ive fallen in love with each piece that Ive created for this series. Each piece enhances the next! But how could I pull of a Valentines Series with out a little lace?? I mean I would literally be committing style crimes just by leaving this little piece on the table.

First off, I picked this lace up at my local Walmart. Its a beautiful mauvey pink stretch lace. And I used a satin polyester for the collar and the cuff. I went into this project so sure of what I was going to create . I revisited McCalls pattern 7834. This is a pattern I had already made before but the fruits of that labor never made it to social media! I like this version better anyhow... just sayin! 😏

This dress could easily be layered over and under to create different looks! It is definately a transparent lace and could use a slip or something layered underneath for colder weather or just out of modesty. I actually wore a pair of pink bikini swimsuit bottoms I made over the summer because they matched perfectly. Honestly, I was a little unsure of how this would go over in photo but after shooting in the cold with only lace and underwear it soon became the least of my problems!

This was a straight forward pattern and I loved it just as it was so, I made no additions or alterations to the pattern. If I had more of this lace I would have made the longer version. I believe this was all of 3 yards that I purchased. But the more tiers the better right? I mean let the multi layers of gathered fabrics rain down. Lately a maxi dress has been my go to but I settled for a midi on this one and couldn't have been more happy with the results.

I styled this look with brown accessories instead of black which went along with my red, pink, white and black Valentines theme. However, the brown and mauve seemed to be a stronger combo. My shoes are glitter leopard print platform sandals. A fun neutral to play on the rich brown belt. This is a classic yet edgy look I'm absolutely crazy for! Get yourself some lace guys rather its DIY or ready made! You won't regret it.

Until next time!

Hello Gems! Christmas is only two weeks away. I don't know about you but I get a little giddy this

time of year. It also gets quite crazy around my house. We're doing Holiday shopping, attending and hosting Christmas parties for family and friends, going to plays, decorating.... All in the name of Christmas!

Well, I dont usually get bogged down with buying or wearing clothing with Christmas print and references. I love the Holiday time and Christmas is my favorite holiday but I like to be able to get the most wear out of my clothing so, having clothing with reindeer, christmas trees, snowmen and such are little hard to pull off any time other than Christmas.

However, this year I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to throw a littke Christmas cheer into my wardrobe. Sequins is big during the holidays and its maybe the one element I did not possess in my wardrobe. Every girl needs a little bling in there wardrobe. I found this beautiful red and silver, stretch sequin snowflake fabric from Joanns a little while back and fell in love with it. Passed it up a few times due to the snowflakes but I so glad I gave in and purchased it. I self-drafted this pattern and Voila!

I absolutely love this skirt! I've seen so many sequin skirt looks on pinterest and social media and couldn't wait to style it. Here I decided to wwar it with a blazer and turtleneck but I think this could also be great chic everyday wear with the right t-shirt and converse sneakers.

So now that I have my holiday bling all I need is the right occassion! And trust I am already planning another sequin skirt that I can wear all year long!😏😘

Until next time!
