Great day to be out on the course, cool to start with but when the temperature warmed it was just perfect for golf, and the first Pego Society ‘Major’ of the year. The course was good after the tinning a couple of weeks ago the greens ran true. We had 6 prizes this week, the competition was a bogey comp, where you play against the course and as is the nature of this competition it was very tight at the top, except for the winner, see the results below.

Today’s winners were:

1st place – Winner of the Pego Putter Steve Crossan, pictured with the trophy - 4 up.

2ND place – Stella Fox - 1 up

3rd place – Brian Baybut - 1 up

4th place – Feli Baybut - 1 up

5th place – Nigel Siddall - 2 down

6th place – Rob Westlands - 2 down

The other nearest the pin prizes this week went to Stella Fox on Hole 5 with her second shot finishing 3.05m from the pin, well done Stella. Colin Fox finished nearest on hole 16 with his tee shot finishing 4.42m from the pin.

“Balls in the Water” a rollover this week. There were three two’s this week, Jan Jones, Penny Barden and Michel Grin. Jan missed out on the prize though, she didn’t enter the two’s competition, never mind Jan, but do remember next week.

Finally, a picture of some of this week’s winners, we do have some camera-shy members in Pego as they are not all there!

Next week’s competition men playing of the red tees and women off the blues just for a fun game. If you would like to play, please contact penelopebarden@gmail.com

Pego Society meet every Tuesday at Oliva Nova golf club, and if you would like to play please send an email to Penny Barden at pegohandicapsec@gmail.com, and we would love to see you.

What a pleasure to be out on the course, glorious sunshine we had 32 players with two guests this week, husband and wife Bob and Jane Lincoln, back with us from last week and despite my comment about them not being allowed to win! Bob went off with the nearest the pin prize on hole16 with no one beating his 3.27m, well done Bob, see you both next week. The other nearest the pin prize went to Roger Brown on Hole 5 with his second shot finishing 2.72m from the pin, well done Roger.

Today’s competition was a pairs better ball and there was some fantastic scoring as you can see from the results below.

“Balls in the Water” after the previous two weeks being a troll over this week it was won by Danny Herron who correctly guessed that 90 balls would finish in a watery grave. Because it was a big pot, he kindly donated half the winnings to the captain’s charity. We done Danny. There were no two’s again this week, the third week in a row. So it was decided to do a card draw and there were 4 lucky winners.

Again, the course was in great condition, despite the thin tinning of the greens and adding lots of sand the greens were rolling true, so they can only get better. Well done Jaime and the team.

Today’s winners were:

1st place – Peter Cornes and Barry Levitt with a better ball score, that would always take some beating, of 48 points

2ND place – Mick Farmer and Ian Robertson with a better ball score of 45 points

3rd place – John Snelling and Ian Jones with a better ball score of 44 points.

4th place – Brian Baybutt and Colin Foster with a better ball score of 43 points

5th place – Brian Barden and Susie Snelling with a better ball score of 41 points

So, all pretty close apert from the runaway winners well done Peter and Barry.

Next week, we will be playing our first ‘Major’ of the year, which was put back a week because of the hollow tinning, the Pego Putter, a bogey competition where you play against the course. Defending champion from last year Derek Lindley.

Finally, a picture of this week’s winners, you can see we had some extra prizes this week, Avocado’s and lots of them, one of our members has a huge tree so brought some in for all who played today to share. Hope they enjoy them.

After all the rain over the las weeks it was good to be out on the course again, we had two guests this week, husband and wife Bob and Jane Lincoln, we are pretty sure the enjoyed playing with Pego as they asked if they could play next week. We said ok, as long as you don’t win! That was because they came second today.

Today’s competition was a Texas Scramble, so an easy introduction back to playing after all the rain, the weather was good although quite windy. A smaller field than usual with only 21 players today but that did not detract from the golf.

“Balls in the Water” was a roll over again, no one guessed the correct number, this week there were 48 balls went into the water. In the two’s it was remarkable, Shaun O’Gorman with 13m on the 3rd hole and Paul Sankey on the 16th hole with 8.05m. I know both thought they were well off the winning distance, because I was playing with them. Just goes to show, always make sure you measure the distance between your ball and the pin, you never know if you may win!

Before we get onto the winners, on behalf of Pego I would just like to add a big thank you to the green staff at Oliva for getting the course back into playing condition so soon, there is still a lot of tree damage and much work to do, but the greens were outstanding today. Well done Jaime and his team.

Today’s winners were:

1st place – Shaun O’Gorman, John Snelling, Paul Sankey and Derek Lindley playing with a combined handicap of 5, they had a gross 68 net 65

2ND place – Michel Grin, Celia Cronin, Bob and Jane Lincoln, playing with a combined handicap of 7.5, they had a gross 72 net 64.6

Well done to both teams and all the others taking part.

Next week, we will be playing our first ‘Major’ of the year, which is the Pego Putter, a bogey competition where you play against the course. Defending champion from last year Derek Lindley.
