One of my favorite things about being a photographer is that I often get to witness and capture all of the most important parts of a person's life. A beautiful couple embarking on their journey together, the excitement of the first pregnancy, bringing a new bundle of joy into the world and growing into the parent's I already knew they would become.

When my husband and I moved to New Braunfels in 2016, we had no friends. We only had each other. Leaning on one another for everything was hard but really made us grow closer together. We started meeting our wonderful neighbors and then took it upon ourselves to go out to a local bar and hopefully meet some friends. We ended up going to the Pour Haus, a local favorite in New Braunfels, and met Allison + Frank.

My husband, who normally has a little apprehension to just walk up and meet people he doesn't know, said "we're never going to meet people if we don't just walk right up to them and start a conversation." He saw a couple that had a Siberian Husky (like our sweet Zoe) and decided he would go talk to them. We hit it off with them & their sweet pup, Mya. At the time, we didn't know how this friendship would develop.

Over the two years we lived in New Braunfels, we got to know Allison + Frank pretty well. I was lucky enough to photograph their first maternity session when they found out they were pregnant with Elliott (shown below).

Frank + Allison (2017)

What I love most about this beautiful couple is that they have no fears when it comes to photography. They just want to document everything. Allison and I spoke about possibly photographing Elliott's birth and whether that was something they would be interested in and she happily agreed! It was her first baby and she wanted to remember every detail she could. It goes by so quickly, so referring back to pictures was something she knew she could hold on to forever. It was one of the most fascinating experiences I've ever witnessed. I think it created a bond between us all that is merely unexplainable. Pregnancy & birth are beautiful and so remarkable. I never understood the true emotion behind it all until these intimate moments when they saw their son for the very first time. Let me just say, I was definitely crying behind my camera. Since his birth, I've been fortunate to capture Elliott "growing up". His newborn session, 6 month milk bath session, and him becoming a big brother to Emmett.

I know you all are wondering why such a long post about Frank + Allison. Well, I needed to give you all a little back story to these special people so I can formally introduce you to the newest member of their beautiful family, Emmett Ryan! Sadly, I missed capturing his birth due to work, but I would not have missed his newborn session at all!!! Emmett is such a good baby. He has the longest little toes & feet! He weighed 7lbs 10oz and was 20.25 inches long! He slept almost the whole time I was there for his newborn session. He didn't fuss when we wrapped him and moved him into a million different positions. He is so loved by all and Elliott is so enamored with him! The bond between Elliott & Emmett is going to be so strong. I can't wait to capture all of his big moments just like I did with Elliott!

Hey There!

I'm Mindi! I am the "who" behind MKB Photography. I've never really formally introduced myself and I'm thinking that after 8 years in business it's probably time.

A little about me and my family - I am a self taught, natural light photographer living in the Texas Hill Country (insert all the heart eye emojis). I was born in West Texas (Lubbock - Guns Up Red Raiders!) but grew up on the coast in Corpus Christi. I married my best friend & love of my life in October of 2013. We have been best friends since 2008 & started dating in 2011. I'm lucky he waited for me to come to my senses and see how perfectly he compliments me. He pushes me to be a better person, work harder & follow my dreams. We don't have any kids yet, but we do have 4 crazy pups that totally encompass our world. Most people think we are crazy for having 4 dogs, but hey...go big or go home, right?!

🐶Penny, a German Shepard mix

🐶Molly - a lab/pit mix

🐶Charlie - full bred Miniature Schnauzer (the only one who doesn't shed)

🐶Zoe - our wild "child" and the crazy of the house.

In June of 2018, my husband and I moved to a new little town called Comfort, just northwest of San Antonio, Texas. We spent almost 4 months (well...we're still working on it so that's a lie) renovating a 115 year old farmhouse on 4 acres just a few blocks from "downtown" Comfort. Why the quotes around downtown, you ask? Well, we're a town of about 2500 people so saying we have a "downtown" is complete hyperbole. We removed all the walls, added all new electrical, insulation (because the house had NONE and that's a big no no in Texas in the middle of the summer) new walls, flooring, whole new kitchen, etc. Literally built a whole new inside for this cute little farmhouse exterior. It's been challenging, and definitely a marriage tester 😉, but we made it through it stronger than ever. Putting in all the blood, sweat & tears really is so rewarding and we both cannot wait until it's finished. Maybe when we get to a point of "completion" I'll post a blog about the before & afters and all the in betweens.

One of the biggest challenges of moving to a different town/city has to be re-building my business. I've had to do this 2 times in the last 3 years (we moved to New Braunfels in 2016 and lived there for 2 years). I decided that this move (since it's our last) would be the perfect time to revamp a few things. But where was I supposed to begin? What changes did I need to make? How was I going create what I envisioned in my head? What areas of photography were more important and meaningful to me to focus on? All of these questions constantly hung over my head and I woke up one morning and just knew the answers to some of them.

So - I started with revamping my logo. Something as simple as a logo change can really change how you see yourself and the brand you wish to put out there for everyone else to see. My old logo was pretty and simple, but it didn't scream professional, or "this girl knows what she's doing" to me. I needed something that I felt confident about when applying it to photos, contracts, marketing materials, etc. I chose two different color palettes that I thought represented me and how I wanted my brand to be portrayed. I loved both of them so much that I really had a hard time deciding which one I liked better. :::Enter Facebook newsfeed::: Yep, I took it to facebook to help make a decision. And I'm glad I did. I was able to see what was more appealing to others. The one that I was really drawn to ended up being the one that everyone else loved. So the logo was decided.

So after a logo, what did I need to change next? Well, it was my website. My website is something I have always struggled with because I've never really found something that is pretty, efficient & user friendly. When I first started my business I was using Zenfolio. It was a great beginner website for me. It had multiple templates to choose from, was pretty user friendly when it came to clients downloading, favoriting, etc, but I didn't love it. So I switched to SmugMug. The main reason for the switch to SmugMug, for me, was the plug-in for Adobe Lightroom. I loved that I was able to streamline my galleries and add them to a folder in Lightroom and then "Publish" them and they showed up on my website. Amazing, right?! In theory, yes. After using it for a year, I wasn't satisfied anymore. I hated they layout and how clients and visitors saw the content on my website. It didn't represent ME. So began the search for the "perfect" website. I had several *must-haves* in my search for perfection. I needed something that had galleries, booking abilities, email, and a blog. I'm not a writer, obvi, but I do have this burning passion to talk about my clients and share what amazing & wonderful people they all are and that I'm the lucky person who gets to photograph them! I reached out to a facebook community/group I'm a part of and asked which websites they use and have had success with. Wix was probably the top pick of everyone who shared input. And boy they weren't wrong! It's effortless, less expensive than SmugMug & Zenfolio, pretty & has so.many.options. And it has a BLOG!!! Sold.

So here we are. New website. And here's my first blog post. And here's to hoping I can keep this thing going. This post definitely turned out to be longer than I originally expected. Oh well, I had a lot to share haha! If you've read this far, thanks! I hope you come back to read more in the future as those posts will be about my wonderful clients who hire ME to document their favorite moments.
