Year 6 Remember

Thank you to the Year 6 children for leading a short but poignant service at the village memorial on Monday morning. They were joined by Rev. Ward and other members of the public.

Class 5 Collective Worship

On Wednesday, Class 5 led us in a very moving assembly on ‘Freedom’, our value of the month. Through mime and their own writing, they told the story of a migrant who left his country in search of work and a new life for his family. It was through the friendship and respect of people he met, that he found the sense of freedom he was seeking. Year 6 tied it all together with a lovely piece of artwork, and a beautiful song, ‘Sing’. Thank you, Year 6, for your teamwork in putting

Diocese Conference

On Wednesday morning, our 4 Worship Leaders from Year 6 went to Hereford Cathedral to take part in the Diocese of Hereford Education Conference. The conference began with a short service, followed by an address by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. He spoke about how vitally important it is to live by our Christian values, so that everyone is able to flourish and live life in all its fullness. When asked by one pupil what his favourite value was, he said it was ‘Love

'Macbeth' at Hellens Manor

On Wednesday, Year 6 went to Hellens Manor for a fantastic performance of ‘Macbeth’ by the Young Shakespeare Company! We were completely absorbed in the story which, whilst being dramatized using Shakespeare’s original playscript, was also very interactive, with acting roles for some children and choral speaking parts with mime for all of us. It was brilliant!

The X Factory

Year 6 put on a fantastic show for us this week. Our super-talented pupils acted, sang and danced us through the plight of the staff and students of St.Dithers Academy, thrown into a spin by a poor Ofset report, but determined to fight back when a group of new ‘super teachers’ are brought in, made up of celebrities from the world of entertainment! Well done all of you for entertaining us so brilliantly! And well done to the amazing supporting cast of Year 5s and to the chorus

Aztec Water Park

Year 6 had a fabulous time yesterday at Aztec Water Park. Kitted out in wetsuits, they had great fun on the lake on paddle boards, in kayaks and pedalos, and then spent another hilarious hour on the floating inflatable obstacle course! After such an energetic morning they were certainly ready for a picnic and ice creams before returning back to school!

Lifepath

On Wednesday, Key Stage 2 went to Malvern Priory to learn all about the history of this beautiful building from when it was first built over 900 years ago, to the worship that continues today. In a series of really fun workshops the children learned about the daily life of prayer and service of the monks who inhabited the priory, medieval medicine, the architecture of the building and the archaeological artefacts found, how to spin wool, play handbells, and toll the bells in

Bell-boating Regatta

Yesterday, Classes 4 and 5 had a fantastic time in Tewkesbury taking part in the annual inter-school bell-boating regatta. The weather was perfect and spurred us on to perform more successfully than we have ever done before. Our Year 4 team won their final heat, and our Year 6 red team won the final heat to receive the regatta shield. All teams rowed brilliantly. Well done everybody!

Bell-boating Day Out

On Tuesday, Classes 4 and 5 took to the River Avon for our annual day bell-boating. We set off towards the lock which was a fun experience and then we went for a paddle upstream – this was hard work! We stopped for a break and had a cat-walking competition down the central area of the boat before taking part in some races. After this, we had an easier time paddling back to the boat house for a picnic. We were very lucky to avoid the rain! Thank you so much to all the parent v

Year 6 London Trip

Yesterday, Year 6 spent an exciting day in London. We left school very early at 6.45 and travelled by minibus to the British Museum in London. We were in awe of this magnificent building and excited to visit the Ancient Sumer galleries where we discovered the fascinating artefacts unearthed by archaeologists almost 100 years ago in ancient royal tombs in Iraq. After lunch we travelled by Tube – a completely new experience for some of us – to Westminster, ready to start our to

Letter from Sir David Attenborough

Class 5 were especially excited this week to receive a letter from Sir David Attenborough in reply to one sent by Will and Ollie describing the inspiration behind our show garden. “We were thrilled to receive such a personal letter, which showed how much he values the exciting work that is going on in school at the moment.” Donna Jones Acting Headteacher

Class 5 trip to Hellens Manor

On Friday 29th March Class 5 visited Hellens Manor in Much Marcle to watch the Young Shakespeare Company’s fantastic performance of ‘Hamlet’. We were absolutely enthralled by the performance! Following our visit we have enjoyed preparing a discussion this week on ‘Should Shakespeare be taught in primary schools?’

KS2 Choir at Herefordshire Performing Arts Festival

Well done to all the choir pupils who took part in the competitive class at The Courtyard Theatre on Tuesday. We came joint 2nd with a score of 87 (a Distinction) which meant we gave an excellent performance technically and artistically. Every school had to sing The Skye Boat Song and our second song was an arrangement of Amazing Grace. Here is what the adjudicator said about the pieces: Skye Boat Song – “Lovely lilting melodic lines and all the rhythmical detail is confident

Class 5 Collective Worship

On Wednesday, Class 5 delivered a really thought-provoking and informative assembly to the whole school and parents. In class they had been exploring the highest peaks and the deepest oceans to examine the concept of humility, and they shared what they had learned through mime, on-screen images and their own writing. They linked it in beautifully, too, with our Big Write text ‘The Day the Ocean Went Away’. Well done Class 5 for presenting so well.

Working on an exciting project

Year 6 have been working on an exciting project to coincide with the end of the 1914-18 Great War Centenary Commemoration. Working with poet Sara-Jane Arbury, the children composed poems based upon the imagined childhoods of four residents of Cradley who enlisted as soldiers during the war and who never returned. The children narrated their poems on film, recording their own footage of the homes of these four soldiers. We hope the finished film and poems will be incorporated
