What’s the full name of your children?

Isabel Chloé Smit

Alexa Loren Smit

And there is another bun in the oven (a boy!). I'll keep his name for myself.

Could you describe yourself in one sentence?

I'm not sure if I can do this, not because there is a lot to say about me, but I'm changing every day. Like seasons. Like you. Like everybody. So it's not fair to say: "I'm like this or that". But: check my Instagram and you'll get a glimpse of me and my family (@florineduif).

How did motherhood change your life?

It's a big big mirror. But i've heard this so much before, so i wanted to figure out what this really means. So here it comes: we all carry a lot of shit on our shoulders. From our parents, grand parents, great grand parents etc. To raise a child, you need to be aware of this and my advice will always be: solve your problems/judgmental mind before you make it their problem. Motherhood helps you grow. Your children pick you, you pick your children (unconsciously of course) and together you're gonna make a big journey!

How do you create balance between your work and family life?

I meditate daily, sometimes a couple of times a day (for 5 minutes) and I've learnt that working too hard to achieve something never works. So i take it day by day and literally go with the flow. I don't know how my day will look tomorrow.

When you get a quiet moment, what do you like to do most?

Just sit and stare. Life is one big information overload these days, so just be quiet for a moment to remember and feel who you are.

What is one thing you hope to teach your children?

That they can be whoever they want to be, but they need to take their natural responsibilities. Of course they are young, but they are not dumb. We don't want to discipline or to push our children, because they know themselves what they want and who they are. Kids are so pure and real, so don't ruin this.

What was your childhood like?

I'm busy writing a book. It's partly about this, so you can read it soon!

What is your best piece of advice for (new) moms? Stay focused. On yourself. Your family. Don't look too much at how others are doing. And: life has ups and downs so it's totally fine if you freak out sometimes. We all go through these phases, so don't feel guilty about it! You're just a human, woman!
