“25 years since the Tiananmen Square Protests” — [Edition]

 

 

For about six weeks, Tiananmen Square, in Beijing, China, was occupied by student-led demonstrations claiming for social changes and political aperture. Protests ended with what is now known in mainland China as the June Fourth Incident, on 1989, with the deaths of over 10,000 people. Twenty-five years later, the same square woke up under heavy policing amidst the tension of possible manifestations.

 

This story was broadcasted by TV Brasil on June 4th 2014 as part of a section designed to remember history events with a brief summary on their anniversary. My job as an editor was to search for certain ephemeris, research facts and historic images, write the story and overlook the video editing to the final material on a deadline.
