Call for Fellowship Applications

HydroLearn, an NSF-sponsored project, is pleased to announce the availability of fellowships for instructors interested in developing and sharing active-learning resources in hydrology and water resources. Fellows are expected to use the HydroLearn online platform (www.hydrolearn.org) to develop and share new course material or customize existing modules and share their user experiences with the HydroLearn project team and with other HydroLearn users.

Deadline for Application:

Applications should be received by October 1st, 2019 for participation in Fall 2019. Applications should be received by December 1st, 2019 for participation in Spring 2020.

Applications are welcome and will be considered at any time, depending on remaining funds available. For proposals that include course implementation, applications should be received at least one month before the planned implementation.

Levels of Involvement:

Fellows can choose to participate at different levels, including:

  • Level 1: Implement an existing HydroLearn course material in your class and provide feedback on experiences as an instructor using HydroLearn. Collect data on the impact on student learning;

  • Level 2: Customize an existing HydroLearn course material and use it in your class. Provide feedback on your experience as an instructor using and adapting HydroLearn. Collect data on the impact on student learning;

  • Level 3: Create new course material using HydroLearn, share it on HydroLearn, and give feedback on experiences as an instructor developing material for HydroLearn;

  • Level 4: Create and share a new course material using HydroLearn and use it in your class. Provide feedback on your experience as an instructor using HydroLearn. Collect data on impact on student learning.

Proposals with variations or combinations of these levels are also welcome.

Commitment of Fellows:

  • Use HydroLearn to implement, customize, or create modules, depending on the level of involvement

  • Complete the online module HydroLearn 101

  • Participate in monthly online cohort meetings

  • Participate in surveys and interviews

  • Collect student data in your course in which you implement HydroLearn modules (depending on the selected level of involvement)

  • Active involvement in the project for 1-2 semesters, depending on the level of involvement

Stipends:

Fellows will receive a stipend according to the following range: (Level 1: $1,000-$2,000); (Level 2: $2,000-$3,000); (Level 3: $3,000-$4,000); (Level 4: $4,000-$5,000). Note: the specific stipend amount will depend on the level of involvement and the scope of the HydroLearn material proposed for adoption or new development.
