Hard Times

 

Woke up this morning, turned on the news

Man shuffling papers while singing the blues

Turning away struggling with what to say

Words caught on the lines

Having to smile lies behind truths

 

Looking around to see what I find

Possible comforts to stave off my mind

Give me distraction, the latest attraction

Any old thing will do

Need to shake off these weary times and change my view

 

Put sugar in your coffee mama told me

Things can always be better than they seem

Takes a spoonful in your cup and a steady hand to stir it up

To find out how good and sweet life could be

 

Pack up my suitcase and head for the door

Need to get going though I don't know what for

Boots got fresh laces to take me new places

Going to wear down the tread

Try to find a place that I can clear my head

 

When hard times are everywhere you go

Or make up the only world you know

Don't waste your time on self denying, get on the path that you've been eyeing

Set your sights and take yourself down the road
