Welcome back to the Friends That Carry On Podcast! We're a group of friends that like to travel the world together. We want to share our passion for travel through travel tips and tricks we've picked up along away and stories of our adventures!
Last week, we talked about Jim Scott’s birthday trip to see the Northern Lights at Tromso, Norway. This week, we will talk about Morocco, Africa and the week we spent in Marrakesh as part of the epic trip we took together for Friend, Jim's, birthday. Tony Price is the host and tchotchke holder, joined alongside Jim Scott, Jim Read, and Eric Fargo.

Finding Our Way Into Wild Marrakesh
We left Barcelona and flew into Marrakesh, in July when it was scorching. It was in the middle of Ramadan. The cab dropped us off on a street that would lead us to our hotel, but it was blocked off, so we had to walk at least three blocks. We walked through narrow, shadowy passageways that it almost felt sketchy, but when we finally got out of it, a three-story castle came into view which turned out to be our hotel.
We absolutely loved the Riad and the VIP-like service. The rooms and shower were mud hut. Apart from this, it was only a couple of minutes walk right to the edge of the Medina. Throughout the city, you would notice the fantastic, colorful mosaic in the homes. We went to a park named Jamal EL Fina, which is a wild, exciting place. It was an entirely different culture that they’ve never been into. The Friends are filled with funny anecdotes and photos that would remind of these crazy experiences.
Sleeping On the Desert Floor in Africa
Terry took us for a camel ride and a sleeping in the desert experience. It was a six-hour van ride across the Atlas mountains, which has one of the most dangerous roads in the world. Next, we took a camel ride across enormous dunes for another hour. We were fitted and wrapped with clothing on top of our heads. Finally, we arrived in the tent city where we slept.
The most impressive part for the Friends is the outdoor living room in the desert. The tents were elaborate with showers and powered by solar. There was no pollution and it was indeed a land of stars. Overall, the Friends agreed it was an epic trip that was simply perfect in timing and truly relaxing after the other stressful trips prior to Marrakesh.
