How to prep your skin for your Wedding Day.
Updated: Jan 21, 2019
Such a big question. How do you actually prepare your skin for the most special day of your life? This is a question I get asked ALL the time from my clients.
The main thing you have to remember about skin is that you are the only person who wears it and knows what it's like. If you are unsure what skin type you are, that's the first bit of homework you need to do. Asking your dermatologist (if you have one) or a Makeup Artist to give you some information about your skin will be really helpful. This will determine what your skin is actually lacking and maybe why your skin is sensitive/ dry/ acne prone etc.
The next step will be finding products that are going to work for your skin. And trust me, I know some Moisturizers and serums can be super expensive but a lot of the time it is worth spending the money. And this is also something you do not want to be introducing 4-6 weeks beforeyour wedding. You actually want to start using a customized skin routine at least 6 months before the big day. Why so long before?? Well first of all, worst case scenario would be that your skin reacts bad to the products your using and you break out in blemishes. If this was 6 months prior to your wedding, your skin will have plenty of time to heal and you'll also have time to find other products. Secondly, a lot of products don't work after 1 or 2 applications. Your skin needs to get used to your new routine and allow time for the serums and oils to do their thing! I promise you, after using the RIGHT products for 6 months before the big day, your skin will be amazing.
During these months, along with your amazing new skincare routine always remember to drink water and try and cut out those croissants and doughnuts. Ugh I know, I hate the thought of it too but it's crazy what dehydration and unhealthy foods do to your skin as well as your body. I'm not saying cut out sugar completely, but sometimes the smallest change in diet can really make a difference to your skin.
One little last tip, treat yourself. When was the last time you went for a facial? Go ahead a book yourself a couple of facials to relax and de-stress! Planning a wedding takes up a lot of energy and you need to make time for the most important.. YOU!
