While the modeling and fashion world is often seen as superficial, model Jacalyn O'Shaughnessy is anything but.
Jacalyn O'Shaughnessy is famously known for her spread with American Apparel that went viral in 2012, which features Jacalyn at age 60 in lingerie.
Slightly intimidated, I didn't know what to expect once she agreed to speak with me. However, I was immediately captivated by her openness, her mindfulness, and her fierce authenticity.
While she's been dressed head to toe in designer clothes, Jacalyn's personal "style" is nothing luxurious. It's ironic for a woman working in an industry that thrives off of such merchandise. But is it surprising?
"It's hard to get excited about an industry [the fashion industry] that doesn't cater to you at all," says Jacalyn. What woman can't relate to that feeling?
In a world that lusts over rare body types, Jacalyn confirms that there aren't many pieces for a woman of 6 feet tall.
"I'm ready to fall to my knees in gratitude when I find a pair of jeans that fit!" However, she's not complaining about the lack of designer pieces made for taller women. In fact, her favorite clothing items are nostalgic, simple, and have been with her for years.
Jacalyn is a breath of fresh air with a whirlwind of wisdom, stories, and dreams. Throughout her professional endeavors, she seems to have remained her truest self, which has inspired some of her most creative work.
Her agreeing to a Q&A with The Quaintrelle is a treat.

It used to be Jackie O. and Audrey Hepburn. Now, Deveaux.
Question 2: What was the last amazing meal you ate?
My girlfriend, Rina, makes a homemade soup that is beyond anything I’ve ever had. It’s the kind of thing where you want to just grab the pot and run! It’s exquisite.

Writing. (Pssst... she’s writing a book right now!)
Question 6: What comes to mind when you think of social media?
Oy. I can't put it into one word. It is so vastly faceted! It's taken over in a lot of ways. It's necessary and annoying at the same time, and it's hugely time-consuming. I wouldn't get anything accomplished if I spent my time on social media. I wouldn't have time for my reading or Deon!
Question 7: Is there any place you’ve never been, but want to go to?
Many. But my first choice would be Africa. Somewhere in Africa. Although, I’m not wild about places where you have to pack your own toilet paper.
Question 8: Is there a quote that’s inspired you throughout the years?
Two. George Eliot: "It's never too late to be what you might of been." And Ruth Gordon, when she won an Oscar for Rosemary's Baby: "Work harder than anybody else and never face the facts."
