Tampa Marriott Water Street (Waterside) hotel
Tampa Marriott Water Street is a modern hotel that is conveniently located along Tampa's riverwalk. It is directly across from the Tampa Convention Center and is the prime spot for guests attending events there. It has great views and provides a different outlook on Tampa.
My husband and I stayed at this hotel a few months ago to attend a conference at the Tampa Convention Center. We couldn't have picked a better hotel in regards to its location. It was literally minutes away by foot, which made it extremely convenient to go back to the hotel for lunch, breaks, or if we forgot something in the room.
When we entered the hotel, the lobby was very modern and decorated very well. However, it was still under construction, so it was very loud due to the workers completing the hotel's transformation.
The check-in process could of been smoother. I'm not sure if we were underwhelmed because we were working with the night shift or because the employee was new. My husband is an avid Marriott member, so we were surprised when we had to ask about the lounge, keyless entry, and other perks that members are typically afforded.
On the first floor of the hotel are two restaurants, a gastropub and a restaurant name II Terrazo. The pub in the front of the hotel offers burgers, wings, fries, etc and the restaurant in the rear of the first floor has finer foods at a costlier price. We went to II Terrazo, the restaurant in the rear of the first floor, with some friends. The food was pretty good, but the service was amazing. I enjoyed my salad and my husband really liked his vegan burger. The ladies working there provided 5 star service! They really took great pride in our experience and we shared the most interesting conversations. Once the ladies found out that my husband was trying to lower his sugar intake that week, she brought out a whipped cream for his coffee with no sugar. And she even brought extra so that he could take it back to the room. I was blown away!
The second floor hosts the banquet rooms. It was massive! I was very impressed. It has 20 redesigned indoor venues and outdoor space as well. It would be a great place to hold a wedding or a special event. We actually saw a couple of brides in the hotel that weekend.
As nice as the hotel looks, the room was an average Marriott room. As you all know, some Marriott rooms can blow your socks off and others are the standard rooms. This room was above the standard aesthetically. However, the details took away from the room. For example, our friends had hair on their sheets and we had hair in our shower. This was definitely a turn off to all of us. Also, the shower pressure was weak. The room was decorated nicely, but I was disappointed in the room.
Overall, if you're going to to the Convention Center, this hotel offers a great location. However, for better accommodations I would look a little further. There is a JW Marriott in the process of being built nearby (2019), so I honestly believe that it would be worth it to check it out.
