Change is HARD. Growth is PAINFUL. But nothing is as PAINFUL as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong.
We hear these words time after time. They resonate with us, they ring a bell and they hurt. But that is because they are true. If we want to see change in our lives, we must come to terms with the fact that yes, it will be painful. Yes, it will be uncomfortable but also YES, it will be so rewarding at the end. After all, smart decisions lead to smart outcomes.
Some of the most important goals when growing a business is exactly that: "GROWING" and not being stuck in our old ways. We must learn that in order to achieve the growth we are desiring, we must endure and experience CHANGE. A very important way of working smarter, not harder, is to embrace the thought that having too much in your plate means nothing gets done and that's when you know, it's time for OUTSOURCING.
To obtain (goods or a service) from an outside or foreign supplier, especially in place of an internal source.
We stumbled across a poll on the Internet (of course, where else?) that asked random business owners the following question: In a scale from 1 to 10, how much of a micromanager are you? Being that this question didn't apply to all, the following question on the poll asked: In a scale from 1 to 10, how well do you know what your employees and business associates are producing in order to continue to grow your company? ..the answer to that question was quite incredible. For starters a large amount of business owners DO find themselves in the micromanagement category often doing it all, after all, it's their business that they're growing but at the end, burned out from trying to accomplish it all. (Hello stress! Sounds familiar?)
However, even more alarming was the amount of business owners that had no clear idea on how well their business associates and employees where proactively utilizing their time.
At the end, the conclusion of this poll was to bring awareness to business owners on how much precious time was wasted and providing a smart solution to their stressful business life. "OUTSOURCING"
Now, if you are like us and the rest of the savvy business owners out there who are making it, you already know that there is nothing, absolutely NOTHING, NADA more expensive than TIME. You lose it, you will never get it back. NEVER!
We live in a society where the go-go-go lifestyle and rushing demands are a norm but with the new generation of people entering the workforce, we are also learning that keeping a life/work balance is essential if we want to produce a better business outcome. We see the trend of working remotely as a huge factor for keeping employees happy and more balanced on that regard. But have you thought about outsourcing your resources?
Welcome to the newest trend in business growth! You'll find that more and more business owners are working smarter when it comes to growing financially by outsourcing their resources such as their marketing materials, their HR processes, social media campaigning, networking, event planning, travel management process, gosh, even scheduling organization (yes, that's a thing, it's like outsourcing your personal assistant)
Another smart way companies look at outsourcing when it comes to saving money, is the fact that they save a massive amount of money when it comes to providing salaries, insurance, bonus, benefits, office space etc.. Now If you find yourself on the other side of the spectrum, you can budget accordingly if you wish to add those expenses to the amount you will be charging such companies. Plus, you can virtually and literally work from anywhere and as mentioned before, remote work is a big thing right now. Outsourcing can potentially be a WIN-WIN situation for both parties!
Here are three questions to determine if you are ready to commit to outsourcing:
Question #1: What will I do with this extra time?
Oh yeah...we're back to talking about precious TIME! And now that you know that time=money, well.. imagine that, more money in your bank account!
You need to make sure that the tasks you outsource are going to be beneficial for your business.
For example, I outsourced the scheduling of my social media marketing posts and through that I was able to bring on another client. I was able to make more money and by having outsourced the schedule of my marketing posts, it also gave me accountability to hand them in and get them ready for schedule (yay for consistent marketing posts!) TIME=MONEY!
Question #2 Does this person exceed my experience?
It is important to think about the value of this person. Do the skills they bring, add value to the places you want to outsource.
Alternatively, if the person doesn't exceed the experience are they teachable and enthusiastic. One important factor to keep in mind: consider their experience, past record and their character. If you can find someone with a great mix, you are onto a winner! Remember: Attitude is everything! No.. seriously, it is!
Question #3 Am I willing to trust someone with this task?
We often hear from clients that they are nervous about trusting someone with an area of their business, and we totally get that because we feel the same way.
But consider this: If the task is bringing you joy, you shouldn't outsource it fully. It will be harder to trust someone and let it go if it is actually something you enjoy. Instead, learn to share the task and you will end up having the feeling that you are still in control but by outsourcing part of your project, you'll end up having more time to focus on other important things. Continue to keep in mind: TIME = MONEY!
If you are going to micro manage the task, it isn't worth your time. We have found that the clients who get the most out of outsourcing and see the benefits of outsourcing, are the ones that trust us enough to go through the process. We don't mean never ask questions, we think it's healthy to have a grip of what you're outsourcing and the process they use so you can check every now and then, but if you are daily checking the tasks- you will find it is extremely time consuming and isn't making the most of the purpose of outsourcing.
