Sheringham FC are the Success story of last seasons Anglian Combination League. A promotion to the Thurlow Nunn League 1st Division North has been confirmed and next season will be quite the journey for fans of the North Norfolk Club as they test themselves against new opposition.



Sheringham FC, nicknamed The Shannocks, play at Weybourne Road and are affiliated to Norfolk FA. They were formed in 1897, and through their rich history have actually won the Anglian Combination or its equivalent a total of 3 times now. Having sunk as low as the 3rd division of the competition in the early 2000's the club are now on quite a roll, having achieved successive promotions and climbing the football pyramid.


Next season will see them play a range of teams, reserves from some of the local big boys including, Sudbury, Leiston, Felixstowe and Needham Market, As well as the tests against recently relegated Great Yarmouth who are forming a good young squad under new management, there will be many a match day to be excited about for everyone at the club next year.


In our first feature since reaching out to clubs, Sheringham have discussed with us how they are giving Local businesses a rather unique chance at a great value prize. Well aware of the opportunity that lies ahead, as the club charter new areas, and new business markets as well as receiving increased media exposure they have taken an entrepreneurial approach to sponsorship, which is innovative and exciting by equal measure. Matt Hagon, media representative for the Shannocks told us more.



Getting sponsorship for a football club is often very hard work, in particular when you need high value items such as playing kit. 

At newly promoted Sheringham Football Club, we are offering a unique opportunity for a local businesses or charity to expose their brand by sponsoring the 1st team home kit. 

How does it work? Sheringham FC are selling raffle tickets for £50 each to local businesses and charities , and the winner of the draw will have their Company logo on the First Team’s home playing kit for the next 2 seasons. Other prizes available are: 2nd Prize - Logo printed on the first team away kit 

3rd prize -An pitch-side advertising board for the 2019/2020 season.

It is hoped that through this campaign, it will get more local businesses to get involved in the club and increase the exposure of the club locally. Also, to give a small business the opportunity to have their brand associated with a football club and the media exposure that comes with it. 

The pictures from 1st team matches often appear in local press. Also featured heavily on their growing social media channels and website. All businesses purchasing a raffle ticket will receive acknowledgement in the Match Day Programme and on Sheringham FC’s website.


It cant be denied what an incredible opportunity this is. Looking at the prize list as well, even the 3rd placed prize is pretty significant as new home fans will flock to the ground, while away fans will be a new market to the area as well. FTGIG feel the opportunity is well pitched, its been done with an affordable price point, to the level where we can see businesses buying multiple tickets and whats more it doesn't put a fixed sum on sponsoring the club. Theres a two fold issue there. The positive is it provides an incredible opportunity for the club to raise funds surplus to the standard revenue. Funds that can be utilised on additional equipment, or ground improvements. The club will have weighed this up however against the risks of not attaining sufficient funds through the scheme. A risk i believe has been fully mitigated with an incredible value ticket price. The business that wins a 2 season sponsorship for £50 will have made an incredibly shrewd investment, while everyone else that contributes will still have made a difference to the club. A nice touch added by Sheringham is that the name of every ticket purchaser will have their name listed online and in the programme for some exposure, so everyone that enters has some return. A really great thought.



All in, its a great idea and we would love to hear of more clubs taking a look at different ways of moving their clubs forward through the use of the local community. This is an outstanding example of how things can be done right.
